How It’s Used:

A 33-knot prayer rope (also known as a chotki in Slavic tradition or komboskini in Greek) is a tool used in Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Christian prayer, especially for the Jesus Prayer:

“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

You repeat a short prayer (often the Jesus Prayer) once for each bead:

1 prayer per bead × 33 beads = 33 repetitions

You may pause at the end to say a doxology or make the sign of the cross.

Some people also use it during:

Personal devotions

Fasting seasons

Confession preparation

Times of mental or spiritual distress

Construction:

Made from silk

Includes a small cross on one side and Mother of God (Holy Theotokos) on the other side of the tassel.
