A 33-bead prayer rope (also known as a chotki in Slavic tradition or komboskini in Greek) is a tool used in Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Christian prayer, especially for the Jesus Prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
How It’s Used:
You repeat a short prayer (often the Jesus Prayer) once for each bead:
• 1 prayer per bead × 33 beads = 33 repetitions
• You may pause at the end to say a doxology or make the sign of the cross.
Some people also use it during:
• Personal devotions
• Fasting seasons
• Confession preparation
• Times of mental or spiritual distress
⸻
Construction:
• Made from silk
• Includes a small cross on one side and Mother of God (Holy Theotokos) on the other side of the tassel.
